ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT


Physiotherapy Professional is a person who practices physiotherapy by undertaking comprehensive examination and appropriate investigation, provides treatment and advice to any persons preparatory to or for the purpose of or in connection with movement or functional dysfunction, malfunction, disorder, disability, healing and pain from trauma and disease, using physical modalities including exercise, mobilization, manipulations, electrical and thermal agents and other electro therapeutics for prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, health promotion and fitness. The physiotherapist can practice independently or as a part of a multi-disciplinary team and has a minimum qualification of a baccalaureate degree. The Department of Physiotherapy is governed by INDIRA GANDHI TECNOLOGICAL AND MEDICAL SCIENCES, Ziro. The department comes into function from 2013 onwards with undergraduate program and since 2021 the department initiated to start postgraduate programs. At present the department is running program 4 & 1/2 year Bachelor of physiotherapy (undergraduate degree) program and 2 years of master of physiotherapy, post graduate degree program with specialisation in Musculoskeletal conditions, Neurological conditions, community based rehab and sport physiotherapy and very soon looking for doctoral and post-doctoral level degree programs.

The department has its own digital library covering all subjects, Experienced and qualified teachers full-fledged physiotherapy clinic dedicated for caring the society and educating novice physiotherapist. Apart from quality education, the team members of our department were dedicating their services towards community health, health and awareness camps, conferences, sports camps, researches and publications. The uniqueness of the department is to encourage the students and creates opportunity to participate in different co-curricular activities, promoting junior staff for higher education and researches.

I extend a very warm welcome to all the students aspiring to join our prestigious university for their studies.

Learning is a evergreen process. It requires absolute involvement and complete commitment from both – the teacher and students. It is an intellectual, emotional cum moral exercise where the ‘the teacher and the student ought to vibrate on identical wave-lengths.

Here at our Physiotherapy Department, we are graciously bound to provide the students with appropriate skills by rendering the updated knowledge, in terms of theoretical and practical. I feel that the youth are the most vibrant & socially sensitive resource of a country. I believe that this emerging youth power if guided properly can work wonders with its innovative thoughts.

Our strength also lies in a team of highly qualified and experienced faculty ably supported by an equally dedicated staff. This is taking the university to new heights. The Department of physiotherapy, engages itself by conducting health camps, awareness camps, free health checkups, or holding Workshops and seminars with eminent faculty of different professional fields, success and glory are being showered upon us from all quarters.
