ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The department of Physiotherapy at Indira Gandhi Technological and Medical Sciences University (IGTAMSU) began was established in 2013. The department is committed to excellence in physiotherapy education, research, and community service. We strive to develop competent, compassionate, and ethical physiotherapy professionals who are equipped to meet the evolving healthcare needs of society.
As defined under the NCAHP Act, 2021, physiotherapy is a healthcare profession that promotes, maintains, and restores movement and functional ability through assessment, diagnosis, therapeutic interventions, rehabilitation, health promotion, and prevention of disability across all age groups.
The department offers the Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT), a 5-year programme (including compulsory clinical internship) in accordance with the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP) Act, 2021. The department also offers postgraduate programmes in various specializations.

In addition to classroom teaching and clinical postings, students actively participate in health awareness programmes, community outreach activities, workshops, seminars, and professional conferences, fostering leadership, teamwork, and a commitment to public health. With a strong emphasis on evidence-based practice, hands-on clinical training, research, and community outreach, the department prepares skilled, ethical, and compassionate physiotherapy professionals to meet the evolving healthcare needs of society.

Graduates and Post-graduates in Physiotherapy programme have diverse career opportunities in healthcare, academics, research, sports, and rehabilitation. They may work in multispecialty hospitals, rehabilitation centres, physiotherapy clinics, sports teams and fitness centres, community health programmes, old-age care facilities, industries, schools, and corporate wellness settings. Physiotherapists also play an important role in preventive healthcare, health promotion, ergonomics, and disability management.
